The owner was first introduced to us in 2010, by his accountant, when he had received interest in the business from the US. Our first task was to see whether a satisfactory deal could be negotiated with the US buyer and it soon became clear that the deal being suggested was a long way from being satisfactory and our client followed our advice and withdrew from the negotiations and we placed the business on the market.
As can happen, especially in a challenging economic environment, the business did not sell to the first 2 parties who signed Heads of Terms which explains why in total 31 months elapsed. However, our client was prepared to be patient and appreciated our unflagging determination to achieve a satisfactory deal.
By taking a more creative approach to the deal structure and in particular, vendor financing, we achieved a deal at the original Guide Price without placing our client at significant financial risk.
